Israeli movement holds annual bike ride
Thirty-two cyclists took part in the Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism’s seventh annual Riding4Reform fund-raiser, held March 14-18. The journey began in Metulla, Israel’s northern-most town, and concluded five days later in the picturesque village of Zichron Ya’acov, half-way between Haifa and Tel Aviv.
The participants came primarily from North America and Israel. Some were students at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of religion’s Jerusalem campus. They ranged in age from 18 to 70, and all demonstrated admirable stamina and spirits. They enjoyed spectacular views, historic sites and a daily prayer, and were welcomed to the finish line by members of Congregation Sulam Ya’acov, the IMPJ affiliate in Zichron Ya’acov. Together, they raised $80,000 in pledges, which will be earmarked for the establishment of new Progressive congregations in Israel.
Next year’s Ride4Reform will take place March 6-10, beginning at Congregation Yozma, the IMPJ affiliate in Modi'in, halfway between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, and will conclude with an ascent to Masada. For further details, write to hadas@impj.org.il.
